Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū in Newcastle-upon-Tyne

We bid you a warm welcome to the page of HNIR Newcastle Dojo, which is dedicated exclusively to the Ko-ryū (lit ‘old school’) art of swordfighting known as ‘the school of the strategy of two heavens as one’. Created by arguably the greatest swordsman of all time, sword saint Miyamoto Musashi, Niten Ichi-ryū is known for its unique techniques which see both long and short swords being wielded simultaneously.

We currently train in the east end of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, sessions lasting between 8:30PM-9:30PM on Thursday evenings. Those wanting to attend should contact HNIR.newcastle@gmail.com. Currently we only accept students 18+, due to it being a weapon based martial art.

Based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, United Kingdom, it is our aim to promote, preserve, and pass on this valuable martial art to new students who are interested in everything this ryūha has to offer.

The group, through the national UK Niten Ichi-ryū Shibu, has direct links to the art which is currently taught and headmastered by our Sōke, Kajiya Takanori. As part of this group, we have hosted national seminars in the past, focusing on long, short and dual sword techniques.
